Ericka’s is survivor of animal cruelty and abuse. She was injured earlier this year when she was shot and left untreated in rural Hoke County. Paralyzed and bleeding, she miraculously survived for two weeks on her own in the woods. A passerby noticed her foraging for water in a ditch and enlisted The Haven to aid in her rescue. Her owner was located but immediately surrendered her to The Haven, stating that he was unable to afford the necessary veterinary care to treat her injuries. Ericka is a purebred Caucasian Mountain Dog and at 2 years of age, she no longer has the use of her hind legs. Ericka is kind, gentle, and quite happy to be alive. Veterinary experts determined that she is not a candidate for surgery to correct her condition, and her paralysis will be permanent. |

Ericka Fund’s was established in honor of this good spirited and loving dog to help cover the costs associated with meeting the special needs of survivors of animal cruelty and abuse like Ericka. In Ericka’s case, the costs of a wheelchair and harness alone is an estimated $500. Her courage and spirit are truly remarkable. If you would like to join in the effort to give Ericka her wheelchair and harness, and the quality life which she deserves, then you may do so by giving to the Ericka Fund. |
